The essential oil is produced mainly in France, Germany and Egypt from the red onion. It is high in Vitamin A, B, and C and shares many of the properties of garlic, to which it is closely related. Onion has a long and extensive history in cookery going back to the Summerian civilization, but little is known about its medicinal use beyond relatively recent applications as a home remedy.
